About YMCA Masters
YMCA Masters Swim program is a competitive adult swimming program, offering anyone 18 years of age or older a fun, safe way to improve physical and mental well being through swimming. All practices have an experienced Masters coach on deck who provides expert assistance in training techniques, stroke mechanics, and fitness goal setting. Each workout is an hour long and accomodates all skill levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced, or triathlete.

- Why swim with YMCA Masters?
- Swimmers enjoy the benefits of structured workouts and professional coaching in a relaxed social environment.
- How good of a swimmer must I be to join?
- If you can swim four lengths of the pool, our coaching staff can help you improve your stroke skills, techniques, speed, fitness, and endurance.
- What are the Masters workouts like?
- Each Masters workout runs for one hour. Don't worry if you can't finish the whole hour initially. The faster lanes cover slightly more than 3,000 yards in a workout, with slower lanes swimming about a third of that distance.
- What if I cannot swim all the strokes?
- The coaches will break down the strokes into drills or parts to learn the whole stroke. In Masters swimming, the swimmer always has the option of deciding what stroke to swim.
- What if I am too slow?
- There is no such thing as a slow swimmer in Masters swimming. Each lane is grouped by ability.
- What is the water temperature?
- The temperature is usually a comfortable 80-82 degrees.
- Do I have to compete?
- Not required...but encouraged!
- What equipment do I need?
- Many swimmers like to use equipment such as paddles and fins. Equipment is optional. Leslie's favorite fins are called Zura and can be orderd at Keifer.com
- Is the YMCA Masters program a member of the United States Masters Swimming organization?
- YES, the YMCA Masters is a member of USMS.
